Every Barn2Box partner farm offers halal as the default. Slaughter happens at licensed Ontario abattoirs we work with, and every step — from how the flock is raised to how cuts are labelled — is designed to meet halal requirements and Ontario's Meat Regulation.
Every halal order follows a clear, traceable path from a real farm flock to your kitchen.
Want the day-on-the-farm specifics? See Sahand Farm's page for how the Bradford flock is prepared.
Halal is on by default for every order. You can opt out at checkout if you prefer non-halal slaughter. Halal orders are tracked separately on our weekly slaughter list.
On slaughter day, only healthy animals that have been well-fed and watered are selected from our Bradford flock. They are loaded calmly to reduce stress before transport to the abattoir.
Slaughter is performed at a provincially licensed Ontario abattoir we partner with, by qualified slaughterers following Islamic guidelines (tasmiya, proper knife, cutting the required vessels, ensuring the animal's life at the time of slaughter). Every sheep is inspected before and after slaughter under Ontario's Meat Regulation.
Halal carcasses are tagged and kept separate from any non-halal product at the abattoir. Cutting, packaging, and labelling are done so that halal product is never mixed or confused.
Within about 48 hours, your halal lamb is cut to your specifications, vacuum-sealed, labelled, and delivered to your door within our GTA service area.
Slaughter is performed at a provincially licensed Ontario abattoir that Barn2Box partners with — not on the farm. The abattoir operates under Ontario's Meat Regulation (Reg 31/05) and every sheep we send is inspected before and after slaughter.
Halal slaughter is performed by qualified slaughterers — practising Muslims trained to follow Islamic requirements while meeting Canadian food-safety regulations.
We are documenting our standard operating procedures and working towards full third-party halal certification with [CERTIFYING BODY], a recognized Canadian halal authority.
We minimise stress before slaughter with calm handling on the farm and during transport. No overcrowding.
Knives and equipment at the abattoir are regularly cleaned, inspected, and kept sharp to ensure a swift, humane cut.
Each animal is inspected by abattoir staff before and after slaughter. Carcasses are properly chilled and the meat is packed to maintain quality and safety until it reaches your kitchen.
Our goal is to help build one of Canada's most transparent halal lamb operations — from a real Ontario pasture, to a provincially licensed abattoir, to your kitchen.
Over the next few years we plan to deepen our abattoir partnerships and onboard additional Ontario family farms so more households and community events can order directly from a farm they trust.
We'll work with [CERTIFYING BODY], food-safety experts, and engineers to continuously improve our process. By choosing Barn2Box, you're helping build halal red-meat infrastructure that serves local Muslim communities and strengthens Canada's domestic halal supply.
